Here are some basic rules for all aerial classes:
*No jewelry please, especially rings
*Listen to your body & its limitations
*Long hair should be pulled back
*Don’t attempt anything challenging without a spotter
*Be aware of your body getting tired
*Don’t rush or make guesses
*Balance is just as important as strength
*In order for us to help you, we may have to touch you
*Ask questions, there’s no such thing as a stupid question!
Here’s a quick Q & A to see if aerial yoga is right for you:
Do I need yoga experience to try aerial yoga?
No, anyone can try it. This program is aimed at introducing moves slowly, and purposefully in a clearly understood method. Plan on lots of hands on help from your instructors. With that being said, there are of course exceptions to all rules. Listed below are conditions that could cause problems without first contacting your doctor:
*Uncompensated congestive heart failure
*Carotid Artery stenosis
*Hiatal hernia or spinal instability
*Persons receiving anticoagulants or aspirin therapy
*Those over 55 years of age
*High or low blood pressure
*History of stroke, or heart conditions of any kind
*Inner ear problems
These are just some of the conditions that should be checked by your doctor. You should consult your doctor on any new form of exercise you decide to try, and list medical conditions as well as injuries on your new member paperwork. As well as talk to your instructor about any, and all issues.
Will I get a workout my first class?
Yes! This workout will be challenging for everyone. From the novice, to the experienced yoga student, everyone will gain strength and or balance from this class.
What should I wear to class?
We recommend fitted exercise clothing that will stay in place as you go upside down and wrap yourself up in the silks. You may also want to consider covering your armpits for your first few classes until you get comfortable with the fabric. Occasionally the fabric can burn, or bruise. Arnica lotion, or gel is recommended if this occurs. Please no jewelry.
What if I’m not exactly physically fit?
That’s okay, we all have to start somewhere! Luckily this workout can be tailored to most everyone.
Will I be going upside down my first class?
Yes, but only if you’re willing. If a student is uncomfortable with the thought of inversion, we’ll ease you into it.
What should I bring to class?
Same as every yoga class, your yoga mat, a sweat towel if you like, and a bottle of water. (All of which Be Yoga can provide if you forget, or don’t have your own.)
